Ceramics, Mixed Media

At 5 yrs old, John Kaskela began his art journey, drawing monsters and dinosaurs. Later, he was melting toy army men and dinosaurs to create his own mutants and monster toys. High school ceramics gave him the opportunity to realize more of his creative ideas. 35 years later, he and his partner had the chance to jump back into clay, and never looked back.

Over time, his creations have gotten larger and more varied. Amalgamations of plants, animals, insects, sea creatures, with a bit of cryptids mixed in. He is fascinated by color and textures, which shows in his pieces. His goal is to make the viewer wonder if this strange creature could have existed. How did these creatures survive? What was their environment? Lately, he is exploring doll molds. Making 'Hellatubbie' wall pieces, planters and more.

99% of his work is ceramic. But, He also explores a wide variety of different materials to give his creations life."
